Perimeters, a new graduate conference by AGSA, invites paper proposals on the topic of the 鈥渇ield鈥 for our inaugural conference - to be held February 21, 2026, at Thomson House.

Notoriously messy and elusive, the 鈥渇ield鈥 is a thorny problematic for many of us before, during, and after fieldwork. This conference invites papers that sit with this trouble in order to engender new ways of thinking and theorizing the 鈥渇ield.鈥 Some of our questions include:

- How do we find and make sense of the contexts we step into?
- How does 鈥渞esearch鈥 emerge downstream from the field? Conversely, how does the field prefigure and unsettle the research we think we want to do?
- What ethnographic possibilities emerge when we conceive the field not just as place, but as process or practice?

We are looking for abstracts that grapple with these questions from diverse vantage points of the 鈥渇ield.鈥 Possible themes of discussion include but are not limited to: labor, environment, politics, embodiment, subjectivity, art, archaeology, and affect. While Perimeters welcomes academic papers, we also invite creative responses to fieldwork, such as poetry, prose, and film.

Send paper abstracts (~150 words) with a writer bio (~50 words) by January 1, 2026 to: perimeters.conference [at] gmail.com.
